Two New Pontiac GTOs For SPEED World Challenge
Autosport Development is stepping up their
commitment to the SPEED World Challenge GT Series with a two-car
effort for 2005.
"SPEED World Challenge is the best road racing
series on the continent," said team owner, David Moxlow. "We
couldnt be more pleased with the Series. From top to bottom, they
deliver on their promise. The competition is the best there is.
Were convinced it will only get better."
The team finished 15th overall in the driver
Championship points with their best finish (11th) coming at Portland
International Raceway.
"Our 2004 effort was well spent," said Moxlow. "We
took on a major project with this GTO. Weve been told it is the
first professional road racing effort in the history of the GTO. We
know what we got ourselves into. Last year GTO fans were very
excited about seeing this car on the racetrack. As a team, we want
to reward that loyalty through our commitment and on-track
performance. This is going to be very exciting."
"After Laguna, we immediately got to work on next
years program," continued Moxlow. "The past month has been spent
focused on taking our development efforts to the next level. Weve
expanded our shop space located here at Trenton Forging and added
staff in order to build two new cars in a timely fashion."
Crew Chief, Rob Wanamaker, added, We are building
two new racecars from the ground up. We will be working closely with
Holden of Australia in an effort to learn from their success. Well
also be working with the Series and soliciting their input along the
way. We learned quite a bit through our efforts this year and were
convinced that the process of developing the car under true race
conditions was the way for us to go. We learned a lot about the car,
our competition and what we need to do next.
The team also announced that Stu Hayner will
continue to drive the #5 car in 2005. A driver for the second car
will be announced at a later date.
"In addition to the new cars, we are expanding our
hospitality programs for 2005," Moxlow added. "With that in mind, it
is very important to us that everyone on our team projects the right
image. Stu Hayner is the consummate professional. The driver and
crew we select for the second car will need that same mind set."
Autosport Development competes as part of the
SPEED World Challenge GT Series. All events are nationally televised
on SPEED channel (formerly Speedvision). In 2005 the SPEED World
Challenge Series schedule will include street races in Denver and
St. Petersburg, and make the traditional stops around the country at
great tracks like Sebring, Road Atlanta, Lime Rock Park, Infineon,
Portland, Road America, Mid-Ohio and Laguna Seca.
